Methods and data
APR Calculator needs two things to calculate: a compute method and data items.
Calculation method
To set the compute method, change the Method popup to the desired method.
You can change the default method for new documents in Settings.
Data items
Data items contain a date, an amount and an optional comment.
You can change how item dates are displayed in Settings.

|
To add data items manually, click the Add button or select Add from the File menu or import them from a tab separated text file.
On macOS 13 or later, you can right-click on a table row to add an item with the same date as the right-clicked item. |

To import data items from a file or to import example data, click the Import button or select Import from the File menu. |

Results
If the data are OK, the application automatically determines the unit periods and calculates the APR.
Below the APR you’ll find the used unit period and the effective annual percentage rate.
For each data item, the table will display the fractions in unit periods and days as defined by the method, the item NPV and the total NPV using the solved APR.
NPV is the abbreviation for the net present value, which is used to equalize the cash flow and determine the APR.
The status bar will display the number of items in the table, the financed amount, the payment/cost total and the finance charge. It may also provide a warning if the cash flow has zero or more than one sign changes.
Errors
When there is a problem with the data, the application will display an error message with a suggestion on how to resolve the problem.
Depending on the problem, the APR used to display item NPV and total NPV is either 0 %, 100 % or the last value that the iteration found. Usually the total NPV for the last item will not be zero when the APR could not be solved.
